Become a Foster Volunteer

Welcome to Monroe SPCA’s Foster Volunteer Program.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster volunteer for Monroe SPCA. Providing quality, responsible care and shelter to displaced animals is one of Monroe SPCA’s highest priorities and our network of foster volunteers play an essential role in helping us to do this. By directly caring for and meeting the needs of animals until they are adopted into permanent homes, foster volunteers help us to achieve our mission to save, protect, and improve the lives of animals.

We rely heavily on the input and judgment of our foster volunteers when making decisions about individual animal needs and placements. Although fostering an animal can definitely present challenging situations at times, we structure our program so as to make the experience rewarding and successful for both the foster volunteer and the foster animal.

What does it take to be a successful foster volunteer?

  • Have the ability to provide a safe, sanitary, and nurturing home environment for the foster animal until he or she is adopted into a permanent home.
  • Have reliable transportation to take the foster animal to veterinary appointments.
  • Be able to attend and/or transport or arrange for the foster animal to be transported to adoption events.
  • Have the time to provide daily structure, basic training, and positive social interactions that will help to reinforce good manners and wanted behavior in the foster animal.
  • Be able to provide regular photographs and updates about the status and needs of the foster animal.

Please download and read our Foster Volunteer Program Policies and Guidelines to learn more about becoming a successful foster volunteer.
