How to Adopt One of Monroe SPCA’s Companion Animals!

Information about Monroe SPCA’s adoptable animals can be found on petfinder.com and adoptapet.com in addition to our website. If you wish to meet one our adoptable animals in person, you will need to complete our adoption application first. After we review and approve your application, we will contact you to schedule a meeting. You can also meet many of our adoptable animals at adoption and special events or at area host sites.

The Adoption Process: Prospective adopters will need to complete the following six steps in order to adopt one of our adoptable companion animals.

Step One: Review Adoption Policies.

Step Two: Select the animal you wish to adopt.

Step Three: Fill-out and submit one of our Adoption Applications for the animal you wish to adopt.

Once we receive the application, we will:

               1. Review your application to make certain the information is complete.
               2. Contact your references and conduct a veterinary check.
               3. Contact you with any follow up questions.
               4. Pre-approve your application.

Step Four: Schedule a meeting (meet-n-greet) with you, household family members, and pets so you can meet the animal you are interested in adopting.

You will need to bring your driver’s license or proof of residence to this meeting, and if applicable,   written proof that you are permitted to own/have the pet you wish to adopt on the premises where you reside.

Step Five: Provided the meeting goes well, schedule a home visit.

All members of the household must be present for at least one of the meetings.  If you already have a dog or dogs in the household, we will require a meet-n-greet (dog-to-dog interaction) with all canine members who currently reside in the household.

Step Six:  If the adoption is approved, an adoption contract will need to be completed and a non-refundable adoption fee accepted.

The adoption fee may be a tax-deductible donation that you can list as a charitable contribution on your annual tax return. This fee helps us cover costs of veterinary care and treatment, food, and in some cases, grooming, boarding, and/or individual training.

To start the adoption process, complete and submit the appropriate application listed below.
